My fascination with languages has always been there. I began this journey teaching Argentine Sign Language when I was 20 years old. Eventually, I stepped into a Spanish classroom and discovered how much I enjoyed the challenge of teaching my native language. I wanted to do it better, so I earned a certification in teaching Spanish as a foreign language—and before I knew it, it led me here. After nearly 20 years of teaching Spanish and training other teachers, I found my way back to Argentine Sign Language through my work at the National Cervantes Theatre, where I now participate in a variety of projects for Deaf people and Argentine Sign Language users. I couldn’t do this work without the years of experience that teaching Spanish as a foreign language has given me. At Porteñísima, I discovered that teamwork is something truly special; that I have a deep passion for explaining phonetics; that art is a wonderful tool for learning; and that I’m capable of asking 25 questions in a single minute if it means hearing a good story.
MAJO LONARDI
I spent several years studying Classical Languages before realizing they weren’t the right fit for me. I needed to be closer to living, evolving language—the kind I love most and that never stops surprising me. So I trained to become a Spanish teacher, and here I am, almost 20 years later—and here I plan to stay. Along the way, I also became a teacher trainer and had the privilege of mentoring many educators, including several who now work with us at Porteñísima, helping them discover and refine their own teaching paths. My love for language teaching, grammar, and the chance to travel a little through each student’s world during every class makes the classroom—and Porteñísima, with our incredible team—the place where I always want to be. If a student sends a message or an email, there’s a good chance I’ll reply very quickly, because I genuinely love seeing this community continue to grow. Every day, I coordinate schedules and organize classes for both students and teachers. (Yes, I can be a little intense about it!) I truly believe that collective and community-based work is the best way to accomplish anything, and I’m convinced that the team we’ve built at this school could help you win any World Cup.
