Of all the activities and get-togethers we organize at Porteñísima, one of our favorites is visiting museums. Over the years, we’ve done it many times, and it always turns out to be a great experience. We’ve already visited the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Fortabat Art Collection, and the Xul Solar Museum, among others. Each visit has its own unique dynamic, but the idea is always the same: to learn Spanish while exploring the art and culture of Buenos Aires.

🖼️ It’s not just about looking at paintings—not even close! It’s about enjoying a complete linguistic and cultural experience.

Before entering the museum, each student receives a short activity or challenge designed to encourage the use of Spanish in a real-world setting. They might be asked to find specific artworks, describe them, ask questions, identify particular details, chat with a classmate, or share their discoveries with the rest of the group.

The main goal is to use the language beyond the classroom to gain confidence, communicate naturally, and enjoy speaking Spanish while learning something new. Along the way, students discover Argentine and Latin American artists, gain a deeper appreciation of the local art scene, and experience Buenos Aires from a different perspective.

These outings are also a great opportunity to meet and spend time with other students and teachers from the school, practice Spanish in a relaxed environment, and continue learning beyond the structure of the classroom. At Porteñísima, we believe that language is learned this way too: by living it, asking questions, describing what you see, and connecting with others.

And like every great Porteñísima outing, the best part comes after the museum: we all head out together for a drink, keep the conversation going, and—of course—keep speaking Spanish, this time with a glass in hand 😉
